GHIST History

Gateway Higher Institute of Science and Technology (GHIST), situated in the bustling town of Kumbo, within the Kumbo Sub-Division of Bui Division in the North West Region of Cameroon, stands as a symbol of academic distinction and innovation. The establishment was founded with a precise objective: to shape prospective leaders in the realms of science and technology through a comprehensive education that seamlessly integrates theoretical knowledge with practical expertise.

Inception and Founding Vision:

The establishment of GHIST commenced in January 2022, motivated by a deep dedication to cater to the educational requirements of the region and contribute to the progress of science and technology in Cameroon and beyond. The originators envisaged a center of learning that would not only offer demanding academic courses but also furnish students with the practical experience essential to excel in the current dynamic and demanding global arena.

Acknowledging the significance of laying a solid groundwork, the originators of GHIST took intentional measures to guarantee that the institution conformed to the highest standards from its inception. A formal plea for the establishment and commencement of GHIST was presented to the Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon. This marked the commencement of a thorough procedure aimed at obtaining the essential approval to function as a higher education institution.

Government Engagement and Infrastructure Development:

In response to the plea, the Minister of State, and Minister of Higher Education, assigned the University of Bamenda to conduct a thorough evaluation of GHIST’s infrastructure, equipment, and human resources. This crucial phase occurred on September 08, 2023, intending to ensure that GHIST was fully equipped to provide education of excellence that complies with national and international benchmarks.

After the preliminary evaluation mandate, GHIST was informed by the University of Bamenda on June 7, 2024, about the scheduling of an academic evaluation. This evaluation marked a significant moment in the journey of the institution, offering an opportunity for GHIST to demonstrate its readiness to offer academic programs and fulfill the expectations of the Ministry of Higher Education.

On June 27, 2024, the University of Bamenda executed the academic evaluation, meticulously assessing the academic resources, curriculum, faculty qualifications, and overall readiness of the institution to launch its educational programs. This evaluation was a vital step towards attaining the final approval required to officially commence GHIST’s educational activities.

A Fresh Chapter in Education:

With the successful conclusion of the evaluation process, GHIST is prepared to embark on its academic voyage, preparing to welcome its inaugural cohort of students in the imminent future. The cutting-edge facilities of the institution, encompassing contemporary classrooms, laboratories, and research centers, are devised to offer a conducive learning atmosphere where innovation and excellence flourish.

GHIST surpasses mere educational status; it serves as a bastion of knowledge where forthcoming leaders are molded. The faculty and administration are committed to fostering an environment that stimulates critical thinking, creativity, and ethical leadership.
